Buhari's victory in February is very certain - APC elders declare

Elders advisory council under the platform of the ruling APC has said that nothing would stop President Buhari from winning the forthcoming election

- The council of elders said that Buhari's victory on February 16, is non-negotiable - Chief Jethro Akun, the chairman of the elders council, Plateau central chapter, said that the president has no strong contender in the elections

The Elders Advisory Council (EAC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau has said that the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming general election is “very certain.”

Vanguard reports that the elders also said that Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state would have a landslide victory at the polls. Legit.ng gathered that both President Buhari and Lalong are seeking fresh mandates in the elections scheduled for February 16 and March 2.

The chairman of the Elders Advisory Council, Plateau central chapter, Chief Jethro Akun, stated this on Wednesday, January 9, in Jos, while declaring open a meeting convened by the Plateau central chapter of the council.

Akun, a former Plateau deputy governor, said that the turnout at the flag-off of the APC campaign on Friday, January 4, was a clear indication that the party was on the right course and cruising to victory.

He said: "To some of us, we will say that Mr. President does not have a contender as far as this election is concerned. Yes, he may have some people, who have shown interest to contest, that is democracy, but none of them is his match.

“At the state level, the turnout you saw that day was that of people who are willing to support us. With what happened that day, you can say it is a concluded election.
“We know that some people are there to contest election, but contesting election is one thing while wining the election is another."
He said that the elders council meeting was to put heads together towards success in all the elections. In his remarks, Captain Joseph Din (rtd), the chairman, Plateau APC Elders Council, appealed to the people to be patient with the party. (NAN)

APC Crisis: We Elected Oshiomhole Because We Felt He Is A Man Of Integrity – Okorocha

Governor Rochas Maintains That Oshiomhole Is Being Unfair In Leadership.

One of the named aggrieved All Progressive Congress Governors,  Rochas Okorocha  of Imo State has called on the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole to uphold the integrity and honesty for which he is known.
He said the party’s chairman should use the characters in resolving the controversy surrounding the party’s governorship primary election in the state.
Recall that Oshiomole after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, said he had vowed that he will never mortgage his conscience to keep his job.
But the Imo Governor maintained that the party leadership is contemplating undemocratic measures in determining the governorship candidate in the after, even after a candidate has been duly elected in the person of Uche Nwosu.
He enjoined the National Chairman to forward Nwosu’s name as the governorship candidate and jettison sentiments promoted by those that do not mean well for the party.
Okorocha insisted that Oshiomole and members of the National Working Committee of the party owe it as an obligation to defend the integrity of the party, which he said distinguishes it from other political parties.
According to him, Oshiomole was elected as the National Chairman of the party as a result of his track record of honesty and integrity, which he adduced were and are still his highest selling points.
In his words, “We elected Oshiomole because we felt that he is a man of integrity and we are only asking him to uphold that integrity for which we have priced him, he must prove that image which he has cut for himself as Oshiomole prior to his being elected as the National Chairman, anything short of that will reduce his value completely in this country. He should do the right thing and be simple”.
“I think people are trying to change the narratives, some people are trying to upturn the truth they want to cover the truth by leaving the main to discuss frivolities, the truth remains that a certain Ahmed Gulak with a sinister mission came here and disappeared with result sheet by 4am on the day of proposed election, the NWC of our party disbanded that Committee, despite the fact that eight members of the Committee including the Secretary stayed back and conducted the election and declared Uche Nwosu winner. Okorocha said.
On the alleged plot against the National Chairman,  Okorocha said, “I think talking about Oshiomole’s removal is not an issue, it is not important, we elected Oshiomole because we felt that he is a man of integrity and we are only asking him to uphold that integrity for which we have priced him, he must that image which he has cut for himself as Oshiomole prior to his being elected as the National Chairman, anything short of that will reduce his value completely in this country, he should do the right thing and be simple, I mean we are democrats and this is our party, this is APC and the right thing must be done so when people try to change the narrative and to say Governors are bad losers, the governors want to impose people, excuse me, democracy is about the people, if the people have spoken, who are you to change what the people have said.
“Buhari is a President today because the people spoke and if Buhari can be a President because people spoke, then the party must respect that and allow the voice of the people to prevail in whatever election and avoid sentiments. The campaign they try to put forward is that Uche Nwosu can’t go because he is Okorocha’s son-in-law and I say to them, has Uche Nwosu gone contrary to any section of the Nigerian constitution, nobody has been able to give an answer to that, nobody has come forward to say that the young man is a criminal or that he is corrupt or does not have capacity.
“It is not just enough to sit back in Abuja and be talking, they should come to the state to understand the feelings of the people down home, that’s the point am making so my advice to our party, is that our party should sit up and do the right thing and not allow the people get misled.
“And if you are talking about morals, what is the morality in somebody that joined the party in less than two weeks to be given the number one job by Abuja and not the people, how is he going to win, so I want to advice those behind this to stop forthwith and it is a directive that they should stop forthwith so that this party can enjoy that name that it is known for as a party of justice, equity and fairness if not there is no difference between this party and any other party in Nigeria.
“Ninety percent of those who have joined APC in the last two months are doing so not because they love APC, they can never go to an election without Federal might and per adventure President Buhari loses this election, the net day they will leave the party, so these set of people are simply called political opportunists who are not with the people but always want to grab victory through the use of gun but I think this has to stop, why should our party promote this and I warn they should stop this”.
On the likelihood of leaving the party, the Governor noted that, “the option of leaving the party has not come to my mind, APC is my party, in 2011 when this party was called Boko Haram and Islamization party, where were these people, nobody gave us a chance that APC was going to win the 2015 election, so what makes you think that we are going to leave the party for those that came through the back door and are being given a voice by the National Chairman of  “All you hear is rumour everywhere that they are backed by the Presidency that Rochas should take one position and leave the other one as if we are sharing groundnut, but I tell them I have met President and he told me he never said to anybody to impose a wrong candidate or to remove the name of anybody and change it with another in whatever guise, I think they want to make Mr. President a liar. So what they are doing is wrong and unacceptable so they should stop”.

Gunmen Kill Abducted Kaduna Traditional Ruler After Collecting Ransom

By John Shiklam in Kaduna
The paramount ruler of the Adara people in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna state, the Agwom Adara, Maiwada Raphael Galadima, who was abducted last Friday with his wife has been killed by his abductors.
The wife was released last Sunday and was taken to the hospital.
An official of the Adara Development Association (ADA) who broke the sad news on Friday said the kidnappers collected an undisclosed some of money as ransom before killing him.
He said the traditional ruler was killed on Thursday night, adding that his corpse was recovered and deposited at the St. Gerald Catholic Hospital Kakuri, Kaduna.

The paramount ruler was abducted on his way to his palace in Kachia after accompanying Governor Nasir el-Rufai to Kasuwan Magani to commiserate with the community over the bloody violence that claimed many lives last week Thursday.
His convoy was intercepted by the bandits who killed his police orderly and four other palace guards before he and the wife were taken to the bush.
The President of the Adara Development Association, Awemi Dio Maisamari, had in a statement on Thursday urged the Kaduna state government to ensure the immediate release of the traditional ruler from captivity,
“Government must act fast, as any harm to him may become a long term potential source of crisis” the statement had warned.

A similar incident had occurred in January 2018, when another traditional ruler in the southern part of Kaduna State, the Etum Numana, Gambo Makama, and his pregnant wife were abducted and killed in Arak, Sanga local government area of the Kaduna.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Yakubu Sabo, did not respond to telephone calls and text messages when contacted.

Norman Barwin, a Canadian fertility doctor may face a class action lawsuit in which he is accused of using his own sperm to inseminate 11 of his clients without their knowledge or consent.

In a statement, Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP, the law firm behind the case, said that DNA investigation shows that Barwin is the biological father in 11 individuals whose parents went to the doctor for assistance with fertility. The law firm said it has been in contact with more than 150 people who have allegedly been “adversely affected” by Barwin’s fertility practice dating back to the 1970s.

In addition, the firm said it has been aware of another 51 cases in which the identity of the biological father remains unknown. Among these cases, 16 individuals who were to be conceived using their father’s sperm are not a biological match to their father, while 35 individuals who were to be conceived using anonymous donor sperm may not be a biological match with the intended donor.

The proposed lawsuit against Barwin was first launched in 2016 by Davina and Daniel Dixon, an Ottawa couple who turned to the doctor for help in 1989. Their daughter was born the following year.It took more than two decades for the couple to discover the dark secret. In 2016, they underwent a blood test due to concerns over how two parents with blue eyes could have conceived a daughter with brown eyes.

The test result showed their daughter had type O-positive blood and Daniel had type AB blood, proving it was impossible that they were father and daughter, reported the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 2016, citing the initial statement of claim.

The law firm said it is finalising the materials for the certification of the class action and expects the action to be certified in the coming months. In 2013, Barwin was suspended from practice for two months after he admitted inseminating four women with the wrong sperm and stopped practicing the following year.

Infrastructure report: Still in deficit

Despite handing over the infrastructure portfolio to its one time poster boy governor, the All Progressives Congress, APC’s alluring and perhaps well thought out promises on infrastructure remain a mirage midway into the party’s stewardship of the affairs of the Federal Government.

IF a government makes a  public  commitment, the government must fulfil that promise. Electricity was not discovered yesterday, it is over 100 years old and no excuses will be acceptable from the federal government for not providing electricity,” the then governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said while commissioning an Independent Power Plant in Lagos in 2014.

The governor’s assertion of the failures of the Goodluck Jonathan administration was further canvassed on March 8, 2015, days before the presidential elections when he pledged that he could provide 24-hour power supply to every nook and cranny of Lagos if regulatory encumbrances were removed. “Let the Eko Disco sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government. In about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State,” he had said. Whether it was his articulation, his performance in office or his political sagacity that picked him out, the lot of addressing power and indeed, the infrastructure problems of the country were put on the shoulders of the former governor.

As minister of power, works and housing, Mr. Fashola who earned the love of Lagosians as governor of the state between 2007 and 2015 had his job well cut out, if not by the very perceptible infrastructure decay, then by the manifesto of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC. Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the APC pushed forward five key promises in its party manifesto on what it would do on infrastructure: The five major pledges were: Undertake an urgent review of the Public Private Partnership(PPP) enabling environment with a view to addressing the legal, regulatory and operational challenges including introducing enabling legislation where necessary.

In addition, we shall create a National Infrastructural Development Bank to provide loans at nominal interest rates exclusively for this sector to help rebuild our infrastructure and provide gainful employment; Generate, transmit and distribute from current 5,000 – 6,000 MW to at least 20,000 MW of electricity within four years and increasing to 50,000 MW with a view to achieving 24/7 uninterrupted power supply within ten years, whilst simultaneously ensuring development of sustainable/renewable energy; Embark on a National Infrastructural Development Programme as a PPP that will ensure the (a) construction of 3,000km of superhighway including service trunks and (b) building of up to 4,800km of modern railway lines – one-third to be completed by 2019; Enact new legal and regulatory frameworks to establish independent regulation and incentives to accelerate public and private sector investment in seaports, railways and inland waterways; Embark on PPP schemes with a view to ensuring that at least one functioning airport is available in each of the 36 states.

Two years after, the inauguration of the new administration, none of the key promises of the APC has been put in place. Tellingly, electricity which is a key index of infrastructure development remains as epileptic as ever despite the increase of electricity charges effected by the APC administration. The party’s promise to boost electricity generation from 5,000 MW to 20,000 MW within four years is in great doubt as electricity generation has even fallen below the 5,000 MW at the time the manifesto was articulated. As at May 29, 2015, when the Buhari administration took over, peak electricity generation was 3,205.1 MW and two years later, as at May 21, 2017, peak electricity generation appreciated by 23 per cent to 3,949.7 MW. That is well below the ambitious 20,000 MW the party promised in its manifesto within four years. Though the administration is just midway into the four years within which the APC promised to achieve that goal, the prospects are indeed dire. Not only in electricity. Even in other areas of infrastructure, the prospects are indeed dire. The party’s promise to build 3,600 kilometers of a superhighway has yet to take off the ground. The party is now the butt of critics who claim that the administration is yet to complete one kilometre of road anywhere in the country. The promise to build one-third of 4,800 kilometres of the railway by 2019 is presently only evidenced by contractual agreements that the government has entered into with the Chinese authorities.

The administration may, however, share credit or maybe share the glory with the Jonathan administration which completed the Abuja – Kaduna railway but did not get to commission it before it left office. However, the administration’s challenges are, partly circumstantial. Electricity generation has mainly suffered on account of lack of gas supplies arising from the crisis that arose in the Niger Delta following the administration’s ill-defined actions towards the programmes it inherited from its predecessors. As Fashola said after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council last January, sabotage of critical oil and gas platforms in some sections of the Niger Delta, meant that “the Escravos-Lagos pipeline is not operational, the Forcados export terminal too has been out of operation, so if you can’t produce oil you can’t take the gas.” The administration’s plans on infrastructure have also been challenged by the slump in the value of naira as compared to the dollar, the currency of denomination of critical foreign components needed for infrastructure. The administration also promised that one airport in each of the 36 states of the federation, but at midterm, that promise seems to be in the distant past, a point echoed by former governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife who assessing the Buhari administration told Vanguard in an interview:

“The APC, the government in power, has performed abysmally, poorly in Nigeria. There is nothing to attract anybody to APC. Some people say APC is ‘All Promises Cancelled.’

A fan jokingly asked Nicki Minaj to pay his tuition. Her response was A+.

"Well you wanna pay for my tuition?" a fan jokingly asked rapper Nicki Minaj on Twitter.

Minaj was promoting a contest on Twitter for a fan to join her at the Billboard Music Awards, and cheekily announcing that she has enough money to fly any fan from any country to the show, when she was hit with the unexpected question.

And YES! All countries are included. Ya muva makes enough money to fly members of  out from ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!! 😜😘🎀😍💋

While the original tweet was about attending the Billboard Music Awards, Minaj's Twitter contest quickly  morphed into something entirely different.

Any fan who could show her they were getting straight As, Minaj would pay their tuition, as long as she could verify it with their school. "Who wants to join THAT contest?!?!" she tweeted. "Dead serious."

Show me straight A's that I can verify w/ur school and I'll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest?!?!🤷🏽‍♀️ Dead serious. Shld I set it up? https://twitter.com/cjbydesign/status/861073053312307200

Hundreds of requests rolled quickly rolled in, and the 10-time Grammy nominee selected more than a dozen lucky scholars to help.

TMZ was able to confirm reports that at least a few of the payments had already been made. While the request was for students with straight As, it looks like Minaj offered a little leeway there, picking up the tab for some prospective students and others doing their best.

People on Twitter were freaking out over Minaj's outpouring of generosity, and the whole thread was one big gratitude fest.

U want to go to college but can't? How much do u need to get u in school? Is that the only thing stopping u? https://twitter.com/macsirena/status/861076504524066819

The plight of student debt in the U.S. is no joke, and that's what makes Minaj's generosity so freakin' goddess-like.

The average student loan debt in the U.S. is more than $30,000 per borrower for 2015 graduates, and 68% of students exit school carrying a loan balance.
Obviously, "find a wealthy celebrity and ask for help" isn't the most reliable way out of debt, but it's awesome to see people in positions of wealth and power using those resources to help others.
Minaj did her student loan giveaway, Chrissy Teigen recently paid off a fan's tuition to beauty school, and Chance the Rapper cut a $1 million check to help floundering Chicago public schools. Celebrities are people too, and some of them really know how to be awesomely generous and empathetic people.

Most of us don't have Nicki Minaj-type money laying around, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't look for ways to help others. You don't need to be a multimillionaire to make a difference in someone's life (though it sure helps). You just need to have a warm heart and an open mind.

Though Minaj's giveaway came to a close early Sunday morning, she hinted that she might be back some time in the next couple of months for an encore.

Ok u guys. It's been fun. Let me make those payments tmrw then see if I have any money left😂. I'll do some more in a month or 2. 😘😘😘💋💋💋💕💕🎀🎀🎀
If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans with outstanding student loan debt, you might want to give her a follow. Just saying.
